My Jimny
...Half a year ago I went out to watch the regional track races in A8 class. It was the end of March; time to time cold fog turned to rain. We (I & father) wanted to see more, so we'd climbed the small mount next to the dirty track. Our car - 1982's Toyota Cresta - had been left below. Some minutes later I noticed small and funny Jeep-like car (I'd already known it was Jimny) with four passengers driving up to the mount. It seemed unbelieveable, but small off-roader attacked the steep hill covered with wet mud without any efforts. Then, large 4WD Chevy Pickup's driver saw Jimny at the top of the hill, and decided to do the same, but... Well, all he could do after some unsuccessful tries was to get off, disappointed in his 4x4 Chevrolet. Neither four-wreel-drive transmission with diff. locks, nor even powerful engine could do what small japanese did. At that moment Jimny's become a serious all-terrain vehicle in my eyes, and we decided to get one of that "wall-climbers".
On 31th of August we've found Jimny we liked. By the way: car traffic in Russia is right-sided (so the steering wheel must be on the left), nevertheless, major japanese cars come with right-sided wheel - we call them "right-handed". Jimny we've found is not the exception, because Jimny is the native japanese car created only for Japan; in other countries it is called Samurai. So, we paid for 1989's Suzuki Jimny $1600, and now I'm happy to drive one of the most meritorious off-roaders in the world.
My Jimny's model is M-JA71V. It has 543cc 3-cylinder engine with turbo compressor, giving out 52bhp@5500rpm. That's enough to climb 50% lift with full load. Transmission has 5-speed gearbox and 2-speed part-time trasnfer. Strong frame bears all the mechanisms and high-roof body with 4 seats inside (rear bench is folding and very narrow). 22cm road clearance in combination with narrow track and wide attack angle allows small Jimny to do almost impossible things. Althow my Jimny is totally stock (I haven't done any modifications yet), it doesn't need any road at all.
